The 70's started out poorly with the passing of Brian Piccolo. In 1971 a move to Soldier field, a new general manger in 1974 and then in 1975 Walter Payton was drafted out of Jackson State. By 1977 the Bears were back into post season play. In 1978 Buddy Ryan was hired as defensive coordinator and in 1979 the Bears were again in the playoffs.
